College Football, 2021 version is here. Thank goodness! Need something to divert attention from politics, Covid, etc.!!

ZT was looking for some extra perspective on the 2021 CFB Season so stopped at one of those $10 palm reader houses in rural South Carolina ( actually was attached to a gas station and needed to use the restroom so….) When I got to the palm reader’s door, the sign said “closed due to unforeseen circumstances”. Quickly realized this was NOT the answer.

Stopped at local Dairy Queen ( ZT has some of his greatest thoughts in the DQ ) and while eating a Drumstick Blizzard, it hit me: I got the Piedmont Padre on my side so who needs a palm reader, OUIJA board, Tarot Cards, or even a copy of Athlon when you got that kind of knowledge and the”Higher Power” going for you!

We are excited about the 2021 season. Who would not be with the off season announcements of an expanded SEC, an alliance with the ACC, Big10, and Punk-12 that looks like something Vince McMahon would have designed for WWE, college athletes allowed to sign promotional deals, and the public FINALLY proclaiming the Notre Dame mascot is “offensive”.

While the season really starts next week, got a few “warm-up” games this Saturday. It’s ok to watch a Hallmark/Lifetime movie this weekend and even go to Bed, Bath, and Beyond with your significant other but starting Thursday September 2, this is not allowed again until January 2022.

Warm Up #1

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Illinois Fighting Illini

Huskers Lead Shucker HC Scott Frost is in his 4th year and could be coaching in the CFL in 2022 if he remains as ICE COLD as he has been in Lincoln. The men of the corn really need QB “YO” Adrian Martinez to break out this season as a leader. Noting the Illini are set to run a 3-4 defense, the Big Red Thrashing Machine run game should be the feature this week. Illini HC Bret Bielema is back to the Big 10 after trips to Ark and the NFL. Illini faithful hope he will return them to relevance. Running game appears to be their strength while they develop a QB. ZT says make a pot of coffee ( even for a noon kick ) while you watch 2 average teams look to start out 2021 with a W. Nebraska gets the close win and Green Giant signs the team to a deal to put their faces on cans of corn. Nebraska 27 Illinois 24

Warm Up #2

Hawaii Rainbow Warriors vs. UCLA Bruins

Ok…its on the Mainland so not good for the Islanders. But it is good for UCLA HC Chip Kelly who noted to the media his desk chair seems a little HOT these days based on results. Expect to see some points in this one as 2nd year HI HC Todd Graham, who did a nice job in 2020, brings a solid offense to California. The Rainbow Warriors finished with a win in the New Mexico Bowl that was played in Frisco, TX ( yep, one of those Covid deals ). ZT likes the spread-type offense he will run with a dual-threat QB. Get 4 growlers of amber beer, a bag of roasted peanuts and enjoy the air show. No upset but a little closer than Vegas sees it. UCLA 38 Hawaii 28.

ZT learned CBS will allow its announcers to also strike NIL ( Names, Images, Likeness ) deals like the college boys. Hearing Gary Danielson may have a new deal for this product line……

Padre will be on E-Bay looking to buy vintage Steve Spurrier and Gator sportswear ( has his eye on a Members Only jacket signed by Rex Grossman ). ZT is working on a sponsorship deal as a “before” model for Nurtisystem.
