The off-season did not disappoint, other than a proliferation of Georgia Bulldog car tags/T-shirts and Stetson Bennett being followed as he moved to The Villages in Florida to hang out with people more his age. The Punk-12 is now the Punk-4 and has less fans than 1 day of border crossings in Texas. Speaking of that….It is amazing that Texas and Oklahoma fans believe they will run roughshod over their new foes in the SEC. No wonder the Big 12 didn’t even wave good bye, quickly became the Big 16, and may add more…. The ACC hasn’t changed but FSU wants OUT and nothing supports the tradition of the Atlantic Coast Conference more than considering bringing in CAL and Stanford… more drama coming soon to a conference near you!
Enough of the moves being made in the smoke filled rooms somewhere Montana. At least the players are still just in it for their schools, a great education and maybe a shot at the NFL.
Ok…a few unique NIL deals vs. the mega millions going to Arch Manning and others:

Will be different without The Pirate Mike Leach to give us some quotables but maybe Lane Kiffin is planning to take the lead this year!
CFB will be here in a few weeks so make sure you go over everything on your calendar through January 8 with your wife/girlfriend now. ZT and the Padre will be back with prognostications for Labor Day weekend ( forget that Week 0 stuff….it’s only Notre Dame anyway ) !!
8/26 AM: PADRE comes out of the Swamp with some Week Zero Updates
Not much predicting…But don’t worry, plenty of Gator cynicism coming this year!
Georgia gonna three -peat unless Bama can stop them – so I have to pull for Bama AGAIN! The football gods are cruel, my friend.
Here are some general predictions for the season:
- Neither Texas or OU will win the conference in their final year of being in the Big 12
- UCF will continue to act like they are Bama or Georgia ….or at least the kings of the Sunshine State.
- Florida loses to a team ( like Vandy last year ) that they should never lose to ( but not Vandy ) – wait, it would have to be Vandy because our schedule is STACKED while Georgia plays a bunch of little leaguers from Valdosta ( how convenient ). There’s that Gator cynicism baby.
- Coach Prime will get Kirby Smart attention while winning around 4 or 5 games.
- College Gameday will get even less of my personal attention after they laid off a good man in David Pollack – in favor of the “Don King” of college sports tv shows.
- Nick Saban will lose it on the media by week four and his “aights” for that event will be a record amount. Over/Under is 17 per minute.
- Brian Kelly will improve his southern accent so that it will at least sound like some Hollywood actor imitating a Cajun accent in a B movie.
- Notre Dame will disappoint (that’s not much of a prediction).
- FSU will make the CFP. So now I have Georgia and FSU in the CFP. Which means I may to pull for Georgia. The football gods aren’t just cruel – they hate me. I have somehow offended them beyond repair!
- Dabo will, at some point, lecture all of us about how it was better in the old days and he hates the new world. He is also right, but I won’t like hearing it from him because he sounds like an angry dad lecturing us over the music we enjoy. He will probably even start singing “Rich Men North of Richmond” during a presser! But remember, he makes $10 mil a year SOUTH of Richmond, so it’s okay when HE does it.
