Here we go…..YES, Conference Championships still mean plenty and more than just an automatic bid to the CFP for some. ZT was reminded that holding a grudge, especially 41 years and against a Boise-based grocery chain, can cloud one’s assessment of the situation at hand. Congrats to the Bronco’s for the W and making the CFP. Still want my $20 for that tip from the drunk Texan but almost over it. Ohio vs. Miami: I know nothing of either of these teams. The cold weather Miami is a two point favorite on my “theScore” app. Vegas usually knows what they are doing. I usually do not know what I am doing. It’s more fun that way. I’ll stick with the fun way. Ohio pulls off the minor upset 23-17. It’s science.

Iowa St vs. Arizona St: A former Big 8 team plays a former Pac 10(12) team for the title of a 16 team conference with the name of “The Big 12”. Math is hard…..But the Big 12 is easy! — I kid. Sort of. I am actually a fan of both coaches and teams. Not sure who I want to win. I would say that Arizona St has been the hotter team of late. However, I think Matt Campbell has a little more experience. I am going with the experience in this one. The Cyclones book a trip to the CFP by a score of 26-24.

Georgia vs. Texas: In the age of NIL, this game is now Tractors vs. Lambos. Sweet Tea vs. Texas Tea (Black Gold). Lots of money vs. Richy Rich type money. Nobody is feeling sorry for Georgia, but Texas has basically turned into the Yankees of recruiting. Or maybe better, to paraphrase the boy band NSync — when it comes to recruiting, Texas’ mindset is basically — 🎶 “I know that I can spend some more, it ain’t no lie. I wanna see that blue chipper in burnt orange, so baby, buy, buy, buy buy”! 🎶 I hate Georgia. I want Georgia to lose. I also hate Texas in the SEC, and I do not want them to win the conference their first season in it. But I still hate Georgia more. 😇🐊 Yet, in the end, I trust Kirby in the big game. I say Texas does NOT get their revenge, and the Dawgs win by a score of 27-20. Both teams are still in the CFP, but Satan’s senior demon gets the “Bye” over the “Buy”. My consolation? Satan himself (FSU) finished 2-10. Go Gata! 🐊>🍢

Marshall vs. Louisiana: Once again, I know nothing of these teams. Literally nothing. Brian Leftwich isn’t coming out of the locker room for the Herd, and the name of the field for Louisiana is “Cajun Field”….which I know is their name, but that is still a cool name for a field! I wonder if Tabasco sponsors the stadium? 🤔 Anyway, “Laissez les bons temps rouler” — “let the good times roll” on Cajun Field. The Team Formerly Known as Lafayette wins 34-20.

Penn St vs. Oregon: Old vs New. Simple Unis vs. Space Aged Jetson Unis. White Outs vs. Giant Ducks Floating in the River (go research BigTen media days). Penn St backed into the game because Ohio St decided to run Woody Hayes’ 1970 offense against Michigan — in the year of our Lord 2024. Like Texas, Oregon is buying recruits left and right. But instead of their money coming from that black gold/Texas tea, it comes from shoes produced in sweatshops in China and Indonesia. I also have several Nike outfits, so my snarky joke is a little on the hypocritical side. Nike U….I mean Oregon has too much talent and money….I mean passion to lose to Penn St. Just like the game in Atlanta, both teams are in, but Oregon gets the bye by a score of 30-20.

Clemson vs. SMU: It’s the team lead by the man who hates everything about NIL and modern college football vs. The very program who perfected NIL before it was legal. No game on Saturday is more consequential than the ACC Championship. There is no fanbase rooting harder for SMU than the Bammers. Yes, I said no other fanbase! That includes SMU’s own fanbase! 🤣 Meanwhile, many people are rooting for Clemson to win by like one point, and then hoping SMU stays ahead of Bama. So here is what I say….If SMU wins — Bama is in. If SMU loses big — Bama is in. If SMU loses really close — Bama is out. But what if SMU loses by like 7 to 14?! That is the question. And because it is that kind of year, I think that is exactly what happens. I am going to say Clemson wins 34-27.

So what then comes of Alabama? Do they make it? Does SMU get the last bye? Or do they go 🎶 bye, bye, bye bye 🎶?! Well, there will be much weeping and gnashing of teeth in places like Athens, Auburn, Oxford, Columbia, Miami, Knoxville, etc., because Bama is going to the CFP.

Here’s hoping it is a fun weekend! And if you want a peaceful weekend, my advice is this: DO NOT PLANT ANY FLAGS IN YOUR NEIGHBOR’S YARD! Evidently, that is the great line you don’t cross in the sand of life.

Oh, and Florida is going to a bowl game! Sure it is something like the “Preparation H Bowl”, but at least we beat the Criminoles. Gator out!

Iowa State Cyclones vs Arizona State Sun Devils B12 Championship Jerry World 11am

ZT loves this one…..1st meeting of a pair of 10-2 teams with the winner headed to the CFP ( regardless of their 15 & 16 rankings ). Sun Devils have won 5 straight while the Cyclones bounced back from 2 early November losses to make the title game. This is what ZT does like about some of the conference championships as these 2 have battled hard and at 10-2, the winner of this one should have a spot in the top 12. Cyclones won back to back titles in 1911-1912, which was the same time as the Titanic sank….for Arizona State, last outright win was in 1996 with Jake “the snake” Plummer. ZT likes ASU RB Cam Skattebo and the running attack to hold on to the ball and get a W at Jerry World!! Sun Devils 28 Tropical Breeze 21

Ohio Bobcats vs Miami OH Red Hawks MAC Championship Detroit 11am

This game will have ZERO impact on the CFP. But will note they are the only 2 teams from Ohio playing in a conference championship this weekend. Word on the street was Ryan Day planned to have a tailgate set up in the parking lot noting they are the one OHIO team that’s just chillin until the CFP start starts on 12/20….he was told since they lost to Michigan, they gave the pass to Curt Cignetti from Indiana. ( Ok ZT…is this about the MAC game or what!?!?! ). Red Hawks won the mid October meeting between these 2 and have run the table since. Bobcats, behind QB Parker Navarro are undefeated since that meeting as well. ZT just believes the Red Hawks are a bit more potent….. Red Hawks. 24 Bobbed Tailed Cats 21

Georgia Bulldawgs vs Texas Longhorns SEC Championship Atlanta 3pm

Its said it is very hard to beat a school twice, particularly in the SEC. The Longhorns & Sark have more motivation than most being they have had to listen to the “it will be different when you get to the SEC” for a few years. Georgia is 55-4 in their last 59 games. DOESN’T matter…Dawgs happy to win but the Longhorns WANT THIS WIN!!!….. Longhorns 27 Dawgs 24

Marshall Thundering Herd vs Louisiana Rajun Cajuns Sunbelt Lafayette LA 630pm

Told UF’s Billy Napier will be the honorary coin toss dude noting his meteoric rise from the conference. The Rajun Cajuns offense is more potent than a gummy from a guy standing in the parking lot of a gas station. The Thundering Herd will traveling to Louisiana and while ZT likes what their HC Charles “I only puff not” Huff has done to get here since 2021, won’t be enough in UL’s backyard. Penn State Nittany Lions vs Oregon Ducks B10 Championship INDY 7pm

This is the rematch we all wanted….oops, never mind & thanks for that Michigan. James Franklin’s Nittany Lions have a chance to finally win a Big 10 championship since their last one in 2016. Like Texas, the Ducks would LOVE to win the Big 10 in their 1st year in the conference. PSU only loss was to Ohio State at home in November… Ducks only loss….right, they don’t have one and will still be undefeated after this one. Yes, ZT checked, and Duck Season is open in Indiana but the game is being played indoors so….. Ducks 27 Franklin’s Frustrated Felines 24

Clemson Tigers vs SMU Mustangs ACC Championship Charlotte, NC 7pm

Well…read an article where some SMU fans stated they should pull out of the ACC title game to “lock in “ a CFP bearth vs risking a loss to Dabo in Charlotte and not making it. In checking with some Bama fans, they noted “ that there is pretty darn smart “. Reality Check!! This is another team in their 1st year in a new conference so the Ponies would LOVE to be ACC champs in year 1. HC Rhett “ my elbows are ashy” Lashlee has SMU ready for this game and the CFP. Dabo better have spent as much time preparing the Tigers as he has lobbying for multiple ACC teams ( no, not FSU as a carryover from 2023! ) to make the CFP. QB Kade “ I never stole crab legs from Publix” Klubnik play will dictate whether the Tigers can pull off the slight upset. ZT says NOPE but close….Ponies 31 Dabocatos 27
