Upsets, close calls, 1st firing of the season but most importantly…IT WAS Sunbelt Saturday!!!

Appy State Mountaineers beats Texas A & M ( ZT just smiled as an A & M fan started texting him during Bama – Texas…Karma! ) then the plane has a mechanical issue, team has to return to hotel which is sold out so they slept in halls, conference rooms, lobby, etc. BUT IT DIDN’T MATTER as they just took out Jimbo Fisher’s #6 Aggies in College Station!

But was the SBC done? NOOOOO! Georgia Southern Eagles beat the Cornshuckers from Nebraska in Lincoln. Passed through them like buttermilk in a lactose intolerant sumo wrestler ( trust ZT..that ain’t pretty ).

Not be left out of the David and Goliath special Saturday ( ZT knows David was a 42 :1 underdog at Absalom’s Sportsbook in Hebron back in the day ), the Marshall Thundering Herd takes out the Irish. ZT told Touchdown Jesus was at the Queen’s memorial service so we all understand the impact.

Not sure how Tigers could downgrade from Bo Nix but …TJ Findley is trying. Tigers may have been looking ahead last week but they must turn it up this week. They want to run it.. but can they do it vs. the PSU defense because ZT doesn’t see them able to throw too much. Nittany Lions QB Sean Clifford playing well with a nice cast of RBs & WRs although his favorite TE is likely out. ZT saw a unique BYU student section tradition… passing around a 15 inch maple flavored donut item and everyone takes a bite till its done. Fauci says no issue with passing around donuts as long as you mask up. Problem is the game is in Eugene and there will be no donuts! BYU hoping to get their 2 top WRs back but still questionable. Thanks Jimbo! Gameday was headed that way until…… so instead, you get a VERY MOTIVATED Storm from South Florida coming to town without Jim Cantore to protect you. Add in a QB controversy of sorts as QB Haynes King was more like a court jester while LSU Transfer Max Johnson ( NIL from Nugenix Total T ) is ready to take over now. Pirate Mike and his dogs travel to see Stiff Pants Kelly and the gumbo eaters. MSU QB Will Rogers is looking solid along with the running game. Sparty nor Huskies have really been tested with typical Big10 & Punk 12 warm up games but Sparty competition a little better. ZT loves UTSA and the way Coach Jeff ” I still live in a ” Traylor promotes this team. Basically tells everyone in San Antonio to “quit wearing that burnt orange or maroon crap and support your Roadrunners!” San Antonio is the 10th largest city in the US so plenty of talent and they are all starting to believe. Sark and the longhorns basically beat Alabama but didn’t win. No time for Sark to sulk. #2 Bama vs. La Monroe Warhawks 3pm cdt

November 17, 2007….. in Bryant Denny Stadium…. Nick Saban’s 1st year. ZT was in the stands with youngest daughter. Warhawks win 21-14 and shut out the Tide in the 2nd half. ZT pointed to the group of about 200 Warhawk fans cheering and told his daughter ” Watch this now, because this is about to be a thing of the past!” Stayed in the stadium and gave the former directional school from LA a standing ovation. 15 years later & after a near loss in Austin…… they could combine every school in LA and they can’t beat BAMA this week Tide 59 Warhawks 6 ( ZT still can’t mock them after 2007! )

I hesitantly predicted my Gators to win last week and they played epically bad on offense. It’s clearly a rebuilding process. In Napier I Trust!! It will take time. Florida lost because they played poorly on offense and not becuase I jinxed them by picking them. I am not a superstitious perso………OH, who am I kidding?….. I totally jinxed them! I failed as a fan. To paraphrase Hank Williams, Jr, ” For my punishment, just send me to hell or Tallahassee. It would be about the same to me.”

Speaking of the team that smells like hellfire sulphur, I sadly think they are much improved. Holding on against LSU gives them confidence on the road this week. Holding on to my dinner after they win is another story.

The ultimate destination for punishment for me as a fan may be Tallahassee, but the long and winding road goes through Athens. And as I walk down that road in my nightmares, Kirby Smart is there reminding me at every turn that he has something like 75 FIVE-STARS on his squad. I wke up in a sweat. To comfort myself, I find my blue Tim Tebow jersey and curl up in it for protection from the evil spirits. As for the game, South Carolina has a cool pre-game tradition where the mascot is revealed dancing around to “2001: A Space Odyssey” Georgia has monsters on the actual field. Monsters eat dancing chickens Georgia BIG!

BYU is coming off an emotional win. Oregon has had time to heal from “The Atlanta Massacre” a couple of weeks ago against the Dawgs. Ducks win a close one.

I almost picked Penn State, but then I remembered that I don’t like SEC teams losing to BIG 10 teams. No bias here. All facts all the time. Auburn by a point.

I remember when this was as big of a rivalry game as any game in college football. I also remember when Nebraska was like what Bama and Georgia are todaly. It was looooong ago – last century……in those distant mid 90’s. A lot of chatter about Mark Stoops landing at Nebraska. And a lot of honesty that Kentucky is probably a better job. The distance to 1995 feels like the distance to 1885 when you hear that. YES, I KNOW KENTUCKY BEAT FLORIDA!! TRUST ME, I KNOW. I AM THE ONE WHO JINXED THEM! I AM CURRENTLY SELF-PUNISHING BY FORCING MYSELF TO SIT AND WATCH THE FSU CHOP ON LOOP!!! – I lasted 13 seconds….and lost my appetite for dinner tonight.

I think this could be a fun game. In the end, I think Colonial Kelly’s talent wins over the Pirate’s cleverness. Meanwhile, go find Coach O’s recent hilarious interview about leaving LSU. I have a feeling we are going to miss him on the college scene.

I could not understand how A & M was favored by close to a touchdown after losing to Appy State. And yet, when I had to make the pick, I chose A & M. As Emperor Palpatine would say, ” Good, Good. Let the SEC bias flow through you!”

NC State is good. I predicted them to go 10-2. Yet, for some odd reason, I think the Red Raiders go into Raleigh and steal the win from the Pack. Meanwhile, my pre-adolescent son, who has become a UNC fan, makes fun of the State red all of the time. HOWEVER, when he used to pull for Florida ( his dad’s team ), his favorite color was Georgia red and he wore it all of the time to poke at me. Who needs sports rivalries when you have kids how like to dig like that?? He also did the tomahawk chop at a Braves Game – After I bought him a jersey!! I am the Rodney Dangerfield of sports dads….no sports respect!
