CFP – The Top 6

Well, at least 2 of these 3 games will have full rosters to compete. The transfer portal is busier than a 1-armed monkey with 2 bananas!!! It appears the NFL is less chaotic than Division 1 College Football these days. 

Good news? We still have Division 3 and if you missed the game between Cortland and North Central in Salem VA a few weeks ago, watch the replay on ESPN. 38-37 final and everyone from the totally dedicated players to the 3,381 raving fans to the hard core TV watchers ( like ZT ) brought out the best in college football. No doom and gloom but even The Boz noted during the OU-AZ game, “need some changes” to what is currently taking place in Division 1. OK, time for more Division 1 “strategery” after the season.  Get off the soap box ZT and prognosticate the 3 CFP games.

Orange Bowl (If I have to tell you where, go back to watching Housewives of North Dakota) 3pm

#5 Florida State Seminoles vs. #6 Georgia Bulldogs

2 teams that both have something to prove, but will they? FSU was notified #2 QB Tate Rodemaker was entering the transfer portal (don’t be a hater as this has become a business decision and it was common knowledge HC Norvell is working some big name portal QBs to move to Tallahassee). Currently expect Freshman QB Brock “I never wear a jock” Glenn to get the start (he did have a 12.8 QBR vs. Louisville but they did get the W as we all know) but no telling what is pulled out of the Offensive Coordinator’s hat (or other orifice ) for this one. Bulldogs have at least 19 in the portal (several following former DB coach “Farmer” Fran Brown to Syracuse ) but with the recruiting over the past few years, it really is “next man up” in Athens. With another top recruiting class, those current players making the trip have 15 practices to help cement their position for next season. Bottom line, Bulldogs are still growling about the loss to Bama and the Seminoles just want a Government handout for the CFP snub…..ZT likes angry Bulldogs more than Indians that cry. Bulldogs 31  Tearful Natives 13

Rose Bowl (If I have to tell you where, go watch more HGTV) 4pm

#4 Bama vs. #1 Michigan Wolverines

Harbaugh sucks at bowl games (2-7) and obviously in cheating as well noting how often he gets caught. NONE OF THAT MATTERS!!! Michigan has handled all the unique adversity well, has the personnel, and the experience to win a Natty. Note Wolverines have 8 wins over bowl-bound teams. Michigan is a very disciplined group that doesn’t have penalties or make turnovers BUT takes advantage of opponents who do!! In the movie “Passenger 57”, Wesley Snipes said to the terrorist who has commandeered the plane, “do you ever play roulette?”….the answer was “on occasion”…Snipes response , “well, let me give you a word of advice, always bet on black!” Same can be said for a Nick Saban Bama team in a big game. Tide was written off ( yes, even by some fans ) after the loss to Texas and appeared to be a train wreck at QB until they saw the back ups. This one should be a “for the ages game” and expect it to be decided in the last 2 minutes…..betting on Black ( Saban’s favorite hair coloring! ) Upset Special  Bama 24  Wolverines 20

#3 Texas Longhorns vs #2 Washington Huskies

Huskies just continue to win and have embraced the “sure you’re undefeated but…” role! Vegas has Texas favored in this one….but what do they know (ok, they do know.. how about Clemson being a 3.5 point favorite in the Gator Bowl and winning 38-35 with 42 points scored in the 4th ZT!! ) as the line is mostly about balancing $$ wagered by guys who think they can hit a 4-game parlay or a 3-game teaser. SO, does anyone remember who played in the 2022 Valero Alamo Bowl?? If ZT told you the QBs were Quinn Ewers and Michael Penix, Jr. would that help? Yep, Texas vs Washington with the Huskies holding off a late Texas surge to win 27-20. ( Ok ZT, thanks for once again riding the Hot Tub Time Machine back to that one…..crank it back up and come back to 2024! ). Huskies were not expected to be here but took out Oregon with better than normal defense and a solid dose of the run by RB “I love Bob” Dylan Johnson ( 152 yds and 2 TDs ). Longhorns HC Sark likely hasn’t slept in December formulating his game plan for the 90th ranked Huskies defense. It will work but looking for an absolute track meet in this one and that plays to Washington’s game. Upset Special Huskies 38  Longhorns 35

Padre is taking in some NFL action but looking for some prophetic prognostications for the CFP games for sure…otherwise, he is watching Heisman House Commercials with Tim Tebow for comfort.

BAM!!!! 2:42 PM 1/1/24.  The Padre is back from the Jags game and ready for his first prognostication of 2024!

I am predicting the only 2 games that matter. I admittedly miss the old days when New Year’s Day was full of fun games all day long that did matter ( a lot! ), but those days are as over as the days when I could eat whole pizza and somehow still lose weight. Now if I have 1 slice, I jiggle for a week.

On a NFL side note, can I enter the transfer portal from a Carolina Panthers fan?

Michigan is favored. I know Vegas is smart, but that makes zero sense to me. 10 years or so ago, I liked Jim Harbaugh. I wanted him at Florida! But a decade later I want Bama to beat the boogers out of the Wolverines. They ( Michigan ) say it’s “Michigan vs. Everybody.” Sometimes “everybody” is everybody for a justifiable reason – like how everybody was against the new Coke. It was vile. Roll Tide! Classic football is better than booger eating videographers.

Sugar Bowl. Texas 37. Washington 30

From SEC vs. Big 10 to almost SEC vs almost Big 10. Washington goes undefeated and their reward is to travel to New Orleans to play Texas. Texas was furious A & M left for the SEC and their reward is the SEC. Up is down and down is Up. Missouri and Oklahoma are now in the south and Texas is actually back ( for real this time )! It’s a Bama rematch for the Natty.

Some things are the same ( Nick Saban playing for the Natty ) and some things are forever changed ( college football in every other way ). I am now a curmudgeon missing those old days and hating the transfer portal and NIL……….that is until my son one day transfers from West Nowhere State to Florida and buys his daddy a new truck with his NIL money.

Of course I am joking…..Because with my luck, my son would transfer to FSU and buy me a garnet and gold Prius.  GO GATORS and ROLL TIDE ( for 1 night! ) .   Padre out till the Championship as he is cruising the Ford and GMC lots for a crew cab dually……..
